Can I use my RescueBoot CD on more than one computer?

Your RescueBoot CD should only be used on the computer from which the CD was created. There are various reasons why you cannot use your RescueBoot CD on other computers. The RescueBoot CD only contains the necessary drivers for the original computer on which it was created and probably will not boot correctly on any other computer. Additionally, the Windows end user license agreement will not allow you to run Windows on any computer other than the one for which is was licensed and activated. Finally, the Windows activation code will recognize that it is running on a different computer and notify you that your hardware has changed and that you will need to reactivate Windows each time you boot your RescueBoot CD on a computer other than the one on which you created it.

When should I create a new RescueBoot hard disk directory and CD?

You should only need to create a new RescueBoot hard disk directory and CD if you add new hardware to your computer. For example if you purchase a new network card or disk controller it would be a good idea to create a fresh RescueBoot hard disk directory and CD after installing your new hardware and associated drivers so that you would have access to the new hardware from within your RescueBoot environment.

Can a computer virus infect my RescueBoot hard disk directory?

Your RescueBoot hard disk directory is protected from malicious software by RescueBoot operating system level software that prevents normal programs from accessing the files in your RescueBoot hard disk directory. This makes it extremely unlikely that malicious software could alter or infect your RescueBoot hard disk directory.  Although it would be highly unlikely, it is still be possible for your RescueBoot hard disk directory to become damaged if the RescueBoot protection software becomes disabled. It is also a good idea for you to perform a virus scan before creating your RescueBoot hard disk directory to ensure the integrity of your existing operating system files before the RescueBoot software copies your existing files into the RescueBoot hard disk directory.

Will RescueBoot support the new Windows Vista operating system?

At this time it is there is no way to determine if it will be feasible for the RescueBoot software to be modified to support Windows Vista. After Windows Vista has been released for sale to the general public it will be evaluated to determine if if RescueBoot would be of benefit to Vista users and if RescueBoot could be modified to support Vista. Until such an evaluation has been completed there will be no decision as to whether RescueBoot will be modified to support Vista.

How do I file a a problem report?

If you run into a problem when using the RescueBoot software you can file a problem report by following these steps. First navigate to the RescueBoot program group in the StartMenu and click on the "GetLogFiles" link. This will open a command window and gather all of the RescueBoot log files into a single compressed file. After the logfiles have been collected the command window will close and then you can go to "My Computer" and navigate to the directory you selected when installing the RescueBoot software (normally this will be "C:\Program Files\RescueBoot"). Right click on the file "RbLogs.cab" and select "Send To" and then "Mail Recipient". This will attach the compressed logfiles to an email message in your default email program. Send the email message with the logfile attachment to "support@resqware.com". Type in "Problem report" in the message header and in the body of the message give description of the problem you encountered.

How much hard disk space does RescueBoot require?

RescueBoot may require up to 1GB of free space on your hard disk depending upon your existing Windows configuration. RescueBoot requires enough free hard disk space on your system partition (the partition from which Windows is running) to create the RescueBoot hard disk directory. The RescueBoot hard disk directory may require 200-400MB depending on whether or not your system drive is using the NTFS file system. If you are using the NTFS file system RescueBoot will use the compression feature of NTFS to compress the entire RescueBoot hard disk directory and reduce the amount of space that is necessary.

RescueBoot requires an additional 200-600MB of free disk space on the the partition on which you installed the RescueBoot software. This space is used for storing the image files created when burning a RescueBoot CD. RescueBoot always uses the NTFS file system within these image files so that hard disk free space requirements are minimized.
