After starting the RescueBoot software as previously described in "Starting the RescueBoot Wizard" you can change the way RescueBoot protects your RescueBoot hard disk directory by selecting the option "Change the Rescue directory protection setting" as shown in the image below.
Wizard For Changing Rescue Directory Protection
The RescueBoot Wizard will then present you with a choice of three directory protection options that allow you to control how RescueBoot monitors and protects the files that located within your RescueBoot hard disk directory.
RescueBoot defaults to the option "Protect the RescueBoot directory to prevent changes". This setting will allow all programs to view the files located within the RescueBoot hard disk directory while at the same time preventing changes to these files. For most users this is the best setting to use. The advantage of using this setting is that it allows antivirus software to scan to scan the files in the RescueBoot hard disk directory after it has been created to ensure that a virus infect file was not copied into the RescueBoot hard disk directory during its creation. For most users this is the best protection setting to use.
The option "Hide and protect the RescueBoot directory to prevent changes" will make the files within the RescueBoot hard disk directory invisible to all programs running on your computer unless the program has the ability to bypass the operating to get at information directly from your hard disk. Using this setting prevents the files in the RescueBoot hard disk directory from being viewed or modified. You can use this setting if you want to provide the highest level of protection to your RescueBoot hard disk directory files. You should be aware that if you select this option it will cause "rootkit" detection software such as RootkitRevealer to mistakenly detect the files in the RescueBoot directory as "rootkit" files. If you use such programs you can safely ignore files they list if the files exist on the system drive within the \ResQboot directory
The option "No protection, allow full access to the RescueBoot directory" will disable the software that protects the RescueBoot hard disk directory and allow any program to veiw and make changes to these files. It is not recommended that you use this option because it will allow the files within the RescueBoot hard disk directory to be modified and this could result a corrupted RescueBoot Enviroment. This option is useful if you need to manually copy a few files into the RescueBoot hard disk directory so that they will be available when booting into the RescueBoot environment on the hard disk or a RescueBoot CD.
